Our Junior Musical program started in 2000, when community members expressed an interest in a theatre program for middle school students who wanted to participate in musical productions before high school. In July of that year, rehearsals were held for our very first production, Guys and Dolls, Jr. from Music Theater International's Broadway Jr. program. This show was directed by NAHS choir director, Karrie Horton, and was performed at the New Albany United Methodist Church by a cast of 40 young actors and actresses.
The program celebrated its 10th Anniversary in July 2009 with the production of The King & I at the Jeanne B. McCoy Center, with a cast of 38 children.
Auditions for our summer musical take place in the spring, with rehearsals beginning as soon as school is out in June. Information will be posted on our Current Production page as soon as it becomes available.
Rehearsal/Performance information:
Rehearsals take place beginning in early to mid-June, as soon as schools are out for the summer. We rehearse during the day from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm at Broadway Bound Dance Centre. A detailed rehearsal schedule is decided after auditions have taken place.
Shows are performed the second full weekend in July at the Jeanne B. McCoy Center for the Arts. Friday and Saturday's performances take place at 7:30 pm, and Sunday's begins at 3:30 pm.
